The founder, Bill Kibler, (not a member), got his inspiration collaborating with Steve Schalchlin, who he has known since before 1996 and the birth of his website, BonusRound.com. Having lost several close friends along the way, and knowing 5 members of the Over 40 Club, Bill approached Steve with the idea to bring everyone together in one website, and to encourage others to join.
Back in the early years, Bill assisted Steve with his diary website. As the website became known worldwide, emails of encouragement came, which gave Steve the inspiration and encouraged him to fight, and not give up. Something Bill knows all too well, being a US Marine.
Dr. Bruce Dorsey found Steve's diary website and was so inspired that as soon as his drug Crixivan became available, he FedEx'd Steve his first treatment. It saved his life, and Steve continues to this day to write songs, make videos, and inspire all those he comes in contact with.
Steve's songs were made into a multi-award-winning off-Broadway play, The Last Session, which was written by his partner Jim Brochu.
To this day, Steve never officially fired Bill as his backup webmaster, and they continue to inspire both PWA and Bill with his LGBTQ Veterans community.
